I’ve accepted that stress happens. Here are some tools I use to deal with it. As a yogi and meditator, connecting with inner peace is a priority for me each day.
Peace is a state we find inside ourselves. If we can maintain a state of calm regardless of outside disturbances, life takes on a new flavor.
I do daily practices to connect with this deep sense of peace and stillness. Each morning, I start my day with simple yoga, breathwork and meditation. I remember the feeling I have while practicing during the day when I feel stressed. Morning practice sets a solid foundation for remaining calm during my day. For you, running or taking a morning walk might be your way of feeling quiet and peaceful.
When I start feeling stressed, I take a deep breath and remember to breathe. The breath helps me reconnect to the present moment and deeper peace. When I'm stressed, I often hold my breath. One deep breath restores me.
Another practice I use is going outside. Whenever I can breathe fresh air and gaze at the simplicity of nature, I feel greater peace. I love trees and will gaze at them or give them a hug. You might feel more calm looking at flowers or being by water. Find places where you feel the best and go there. You can share them with your children and enjoy them together.
Laughing helps to release tense muscles and strengthen our immune systems. It also reminds us not to take things so seriously. I like laughing when I'm feeling stressed. It’s great if you’re running late. Sometimes, I remember something funny and other times I just fake it. It still feels good and breaks my nervous tension.
Think about when you're the most calm. Make a point to do it more each day. Stress can make you sick. Peace can set you free.
