“While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.”
It has been taught throughout history to be like a child, to find our inner child and to be innocent as a child. Just the same, as parents, we tend to focus on how to teach our children. We want them to know what is right or wrong based on what we believe. We correct them and try to get them to act as we would like them to be.
Perhaps if we shifted our focus from being a teacher to being a student, we could learn a lot and enjoy them more. When I observe children, I see how present, playful and imaginative they are. They speak from the heart and express their emotions openly.
As adults, most of us have learned to work hard, to be serious and to stay in control. We lose touch with the child in us who likes to be playful, to have fun and to express what she feels in the moment. We often learn how to behave in ways to please others. We lose sight of how we feel like being. We can lose our sense of imagination and play and get too caught up in working and producing.
IF we shift our perception, we can learn so much from our children. They can become our greatest teachers. Many spiritual teachings tell us to be present and to act as a child. Our children can remind us how to do this.
Children need our love and attention. They can teach us so much.
