I don’t know you, but will you let me use your bank account?
It’s easy. A debit card and the authority to use it will do. I’m an expert on certain subjects. You can trust me to manage and spend your money.
Think I’m crazy? Good.
But how many times have you given away much more without noticing?
When somebody's the authority on a subject for you, you're putting a piece of your life in another’s hands. You're giving them the PIN number to your life. Your life is being spent by another person - on their authority.
Exercising Authority
Here's a three-step exercise for you: Read - Think - Do.
You must do all three - including think - for yourself in this exercise.
Read - Below are several thoughts on the subject of authority. Read them.
Think - Any/all could be wrong. Any/all could be right. Decide for yourself.
Do - What will you do with what you think? Exercise your authority on the following:
- Where there's need, there's no freedom.
- If you need another to be your authority, you're a slave.
- You can't be free without being your own authority.
- A master's his own authority.
- A teacher isn't another's authority.
- A teacher imparts knowledge by sharing concepts.
- A master says drop knowledge - get to knowing.
- Knowledge is a noun, static, dead.
- Knowing is a verb, dynamic, alive.
- A teacher can only teach hypothetically.
- Everything's hypothetical until it's experienced.
- Knowledge is not knowing.
- Knowledge becomes knowing only with experience.
- A master's a live demonstration asking you to experience knowing for yourself.
- Until you've experienced something yourself, you've only hearsay, hypothesis.
- You're either your own authority on something or you aren't.
- Nobody can be an authority for you. Another can only be an opinion leader.
- He who works with opinion isn't an authority.
- Nothing other than you prevents you from being an authority on anything.
- If you're experiencing any difficulties with anything, it's because you aren't your own authority on the matter.
Expert help costs more than you’ve ever imagined if it isn't just help - it costs you freedom.
Somebody else decides how your life gets spent when you aren't your own authority.
You can use expert help and still be your own authority, but to understand how, you must first understand...
